Islam in Japan in a Contemporary Paradigm
Research ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 7 No 1- Author:

- Abstract:
- The article examines the development of Islam in Japan from Noda Masataro – the first Japanese to convert to Islam in 1891 in the Ottoman Empire, to the present day. Particular attention is paid to the coverage of Japan’s Islamic policy in 1930–1945, and how Islam is understood by the Japanese through the prism of Shintoism and Buddhism. There is currently a growing number of Japanese Muslims. It is noteworthy that most of them are women married to Muslims, but the Japanese themselves, mostly young intellectuals, are beginning to embrace Islam. There are also second-generation Muslims in Japan, those who have one or both parents who are Muslim. One of the parents may be a foreigner. In this case, such people face problems of identity and the ability to integrate into traditional Japanese society. One of the main problems of Japanese Muslims is the problem of burial according to the Muslim tradition, since in Japan, cremation is mostly chosen in such cases. In general, Japanese citizens are religiously tolerant and measures have been taken by the authorities to maintain such sentiments and this despite the growing Islamophobic sentiments in Europe and America, which may sow fear among the Japanese against Muslims.

- Историко-правовые проблемы развития государственности
- Abstract:
- The article discusses the issues of understanding by international political scientists of the strategy of the Japanese Government to move to a more decisive military doctrine based on the conceptual idea of anticipating the actions of a potential enemy. In August 2016, the cabinet of Shinzo Abe declared the country's appeal to the new strategy "Free and Open Indo-Pacific Region" (FOIP), which has since become a system-forming link in Japanese foreign policy. Nevertheless, there is no definite general opinion among FOIP political scientists as to what FOIP really and definitively is within the framework of the official Tokyo's foreign policy course.

- Abstract:
- The authors, based on poorly studied documents and secondary sources, consider the events on Khalkhin Gol in the context of the development of military-political and economic processes in East Asia, primarily related to the Sin War. The authors claim that the Japanese militarists did not abandon their plans of aggression against the USSR after Khalkhin-Gol, and the cessation of hostilities against the Red Army and the MNR troops was caused by the position of politicians in the leadership of Japan. Due to the pressure of the militarists on the Japanese government and parliament, rapprochement between the USSR and Japan became extremely difficult after December 1939. The authors argue that the decision of the Japanese government to stop fighting on the Khalkhin-Gol River was caused by the complication of the economic situation in Japan itself as a result of the outbreak of World War II and the prolongation of the Sin War.
