Traditions of Chuvash and Kalmyck fairy tale epic
Review ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 5 No 3- Author:
- Anton K. Salmin
- Work direction:
- Ethnography, Ethnology and Anthropology
- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to a long-term dispute about the peculiarity / non-property of the fairy tale genre of the typical features of the heroic epos. On the basis of the historical-typological method and the method of plot analysis, the corpus of texts of the Chuvash and Kalmyk fairy tale epic has been studied. The study considers the main works devoted to this problem, compares the relevant Chuvash texts with the Kalmyk fairytale epic, points to the incorporation of the biography and exploits of the fairytale hero in the heroic epic “Dzhangar”. The author also considers such blocks of heroic matchmaking as the childlessness of parents, a miraculous origin, heroic childhood and martial arts. All these motives are inherent in both the heroic tale and the heroic epic. The heroic traditions of the Chuvash and Kalmyk fairy tale epic are expressed in ethno-cultural realities, plot, epic motifs, and artistic devices. At the same time, researchers have no reason to talk about the complete identity of the ideological and artistic complex of the heroic epic and the heroic tale. The heroic epic and fairy tale are essentially differentiated genres. Here, one can speak as much as possible about the epic nature of heroic tales, about similarities and diffusion, but not about complete identity, and, naturally, there is no need to complete the magic-heroic tale to the classical epic. The publication contributes to the substantiation of the main features of the heroic epos in the heroic tale.

Lake Svetloyar in modern sacred discourse
Review ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 5 No 3- Authors:

- Work direction:
- Ethnography, Ethnology and Anthropology
- Abstract:
- The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the sacred discourse of Lake Svetloyar. The material of the analysis is the texts of interviews taken from residents of the village of Vladimirsky and guests who visited this place, video content posted on the YouTube social network, publications in the media dedicated to the lake. The conducted discourse analysis reveals the peculiarity of the sacred discourse of Lake Svetloyar today as a complex and conflicting combination of Orthodox discourse, the discourse of neo-pagans, representatives of new age, individual religiosity, as well as the excursion activities of employees of the Museum and Tourist Complex “Grad Kitezh” in the village of Vladimirskoye. The article concludes that for all of them Lake Svetloyar is a natural sacred space, one of those in Russia in which either the Russian national and cultural identity, or the spiritual uniqueness of all mankind, or the source of individual “cultivation of the spirit” is most strongly manifested. The results of the study confirm that Lake Svetloyar, as one of the most important sacred spaces in Russia with a corpus of various narratives revealing its special nature and status, with a complex of ritual practices formed around it, remains significant and actively functioning in the modern socio-cultural space.

The Tatar layer of words in the system of kinship terms of the Besermans
Research ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 5 No 3- Author:
- Sergey A. Maksimov
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The purpose of this study is to identify and systematize the terms of kinship of Tatar origin in the Beserman dialect. The terms of kinship in the Udmurt language are relatively well studied. However, the terminology of Tatar origin as a separate lexico-semantic layer has not previously been considered in publications. Meanwhile, the study of such vocabulary can help shed light on the problems of the ethnogenesis of the Besermans, which is very important. This study was carried out mainly on the basis of T. I. Teplyashina’s monograph “The Language of the Besermans” and her field notes. The goals were achieved using descriptive and statistical methods, as well as the method of etymological analysis. Thirty-two Beserman terms of Tatar origin were identified and systematized, which allowed a new look at Besermian-Tatar contacts. In one of the periods, Besermans and Tatars had very close relationships up to interethnic marriages. The presence of special terms denoting the relatives of the husband among the Besermans, which are absent in other Udmurt dialects but correspond to the terms of the Chepetsk Tatars, may indicate that not only Besermian women married Tatars, but also Tatar women married Beserman men.

Ethnic archetypes in the first Sami novel “Alkhalalalai” by N. Bolshakova
Review ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 5 No 3- Authors:

- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The article is a continuation of the research on the mythopoetics of the first Sami novel “Alkhalalalai”, written by N. Bolshakova. The authors aim to identify ethnic archetypes that have found expression in the work. The material for the analysis was the novel and some of the ethical archetypes in it. The study is based on a theoretical analysis of research in the field of a number of humanities, in particular, anthropology and cultural studies, mythology and folklore, literary studies, and ethnography; synthesis of the obtained data, methods of mythopoetic and linguoculturological analyses, comparative typological method. As a result of the study, the authors were able to identify and characterize ethnic archetypes that reflect the values and experience of a particular ethnic group. In the Sami literature, the appeal to the archaic is clearly expressed, which is explained by the comparative youth of the existence of the Sami written culture. The age-old oral traditions that form the basis of modern Sami literature provide a message of the past and present in the culture of the northern people. The study of the mythopoetics of the novel by N. Bolshakova from the point of view of ethnic archetypes was carried out for the first time, which is the novelty of the work. The archetypism of the work of ethnic writers helps to build a model of the world of the indigenous people of the North, to determine the specifics of national literature.

- Abstract:
- The article is devoted to the reception of one of the most famous plays of A. N. Ostrovsky in China – “Without a Dowry”. The play belongs to the late period of the playwright's work and is characterised by a complex genre. In Russian literary studies it is considered as a socio-psychological drama with a bright lyrical beginning. The aim of the article is to give an idea of the translation, literary and literary perception of the play in China. The author of four versions of the play's translation into Chinese, Chen Bingyi, analyses the peculiarities of the play's translation. It reveals the main aspects of literary research on the play in China and examines the particular understanding of “Without a Dowry” by the playwright and translator Chen Baichen. By comparing the plots of A.N. Ostrovsky's drama and Chen Baichen’s drama “Love on a Steep Cliff”, the article highlights the influence of the character Katerina from the famous play “The Storm” on the interpretation of the female protagonist and the genre characteristics of “Without a Dowry”. The analysis demonstrates that Chinese translators, literary critics, and playwrights collectively perceive this psychological drama by Ostrovsky as a social drama within the historical and cultural context of 1940s China.

- Abstract:
- The work is devoted to the analysis of the novel by S. King “Pet Cematary” in the original English and Russian versions in a comparative aspect. The purpose of the article is a cognitive-pragmatic characterization of texts based on lexical units. The authors of the study solve the following tasks: a comparative analysis of the linguistic features of the texts of the work, the presentation of the most striking examples from a linguocultural point of view, the semantic interpretation of lexical units. The novelty of the study lies in the attempt to analyze the text of the novel in two languages in a comparative way (the authors of the article chose two versions of the translation into Russian, made by I. A. Bagrov and T. Yu. Pokidaeva). The data obtained during the study of texts reflect the culture and lexicon of the contemporaries of the authors of the translation, which is important for modern scientific research in the field of studying vocabulary, both from the structural and content sides. In the process of reviewing the material, the methods of continuous sampling, classification and interpretation were used. The analysis carried out helped to reveal the specifics of the perception of information in different periods of time. The lack of accuracy in the transfer of lexical units in translated works determines the need for further research in this direction.

Representation of culinary and gastronomic code of modern culture in demotivators: linguistic and cultural aspect

- Abstract:
- Culinary and gastronomic code of modern culture, represented in a polymodal text, namely in demotivators, is of particular interest from the point of view of axiological perspective. The relevance of this topic is connected with the study of the creolized text and the ways of explication of modern values in the verbal and visual components of the demotivator. The material for the study is demotivators of culinary and gastronomic topics that are freely available on the Internet. A distinctive feature is a verbal / non-verbal indication, firstly, of the cultural component of the region; secondly, of the way of representing professional activity or any distinctive character trait. The main method is a comprehensive analysis of a demotivator. “Tradition – innovation” dichotomy is realized in demotivators. If the verbal component of the demotivator contains an indication of a foreign dish, then the visual component includes typical, traditional dishes for a particular culture. Conversely, traditional names of dishes or food products receive an “innovative” interpretation. Professional activity is a distinctive feature in the design of the dish, the method of cooking and the contents. There is an appeal not only to the background knowledge about the stereotypes of the professional sphere and nutrition practices, but also to the general cultural background.

Poetic topolectization in the formative years of the Chinese “new poetry”
Research ArticleEthnic Culture Volume 5 No 3- Author:
- Yulia A. Dreyzis
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The paper explores the infiltration of topolect into the poetry of Liu Bannong and Crescent Moon Society authors, induced by the Folksong Collection Movement, often labeled as introducing vernacular into poetry. The language of Liu Bannong’s New Poetry presents a complex hybrid between the emerging literary norm, local Beijing vernacular and his native lect of the northern Taihu region. Many contemporaries noted his poetry’s merits and his invaluable contribution to New Poetry development, greatly facilitated by Liu Bannong’s professional linguistic training. Following Liu Ban Nong’s footsteps, the Crescent Moon Society suggested experimenting with a new poetic language through the prism of the vernacular. Theorizing was supported by poetic practice: the authors of the Crescent Moon Society included topolect vocabulary in the texts abundantly, and directly marked individual poems as colloquial. In addition to inlaying topolect vocabulary or including large fragments of text written in topolect, topolectization was also carried out through rhyming. Despite the fact that further influence of this topolect poetry remained underestimated, the emerging connection between topolect and the authentic embodiment of the idea of a national language has become important for any discussion about language reform in the new China.

The material for the study includes normative documents, theoretical works of leading scientists, methodological works of practicing teachers and personal experience of performing and teaching. Based on the method of theoretical analysis, the definition of professional competencies is given as the ability and willingness of students to apply knowledge, skills, experience and personal qualities in accordance with the professional and creative activity in the folk performing arts. It was revealed that the main goal of the implemented approaches in the professional training process is aimed at developing competencies for working with folk song material, vocal and stage work, pedagogical and scientific work. The use of the ethno-cultural approach in the training of folk singers is one of the main ones, the implementation of which allows supplementing the educational standard by determining the content of professional training, taking into account the regional specifics of folklore material, the local folk song tradition, and the characteristic features of the national manner of performance.

- Ethno-Cultural Problems of Education
- Abstract:
- The article discusses the results of an empirical study of the tradition of raising respect for elders in children of six or seven years old in a modern Khakass family. The relevance of the study is due to the need to familiarize the younger generations with the traditional values of the people and the formation of the spiritual and moral culture of the child's personality. The purpose of the study is to study the traditions of upbringing in the Khakass family, namely, a respectful attitude towards elders. One of the tasks of the work was the study of the moral ideas of children of senior preschool age. The study was conducted in the kindergarten “Kalinka” in Abakan on the basis of empirical methods and the research methodology “Subject Pictures”. The modern Khakass family is influenced by transformational processes and partially preserves ethno-cultural traditions. The tradition of respect for elders and adults is recognized by respondents as significant in the moral education of children, but is not considered as an independent cultural value. In the modern Khakass family, the described tradition in the moral education of children is partially preserved. In the moral ideas of older preschoolers, holistic reasoning about good and bad, good and evil prevails, there is an idea of helping elders, but the understanding of the concept of “respect for elders” is still poorly formed.
