«In Dreams the Soul Travels Everywhere, and Sometimes Back to Our Small Native Land»: the Language of Dreams of Representatives of the Chuvash and Mari Diasporas of the Moscow Region
Research Article
Ethnic Culture Volume 4 No 4- Author:
- Marina V. Kutsaeva
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The article deals with one of the most interesting and fairly unstudied functions of the ethnic language in the conditions of the internal diaspora – the language of dreams. Based on the data of her own field research, the author’s goal is to identify the topics and situations in which the representatives fix their dreams in their ethnic languages. In the present article the author uses the data obtained as a result of the sociolinguistic surveys conducted in two diasporas of the Moscow region: the Chuvash diaspora (the sample was 100 people) in 2014–2017, and in the Mari diaspora (the sample included 106 people) in 2019–2021. Both surveys were devoted to identifying and describing the functioning of the ethnic language, its interaction with the Russian language in the context of the multilingual and multicultural space of the Moscow region. The results, obtained in the surveys, reveal that 27% of respondents in the Chuvash sample and 49% in the Mari in the first generation have dreams in their respective ethnic languages. These dreams are closely correlated, according to the respondents, fluent speakers, with the subject of dreams and are associated with relatives and friends in their small homeland (often with deceased ancestors), with a certain place or event in the small homeland. In addition, dreams in «their» language also come in emotionally loaded situations, for example, in a state of stress. Respondents with a poor command of an ethnic language (natives of urban settings, as well as the majority of second-generation representatives in the sample) practically do not record dreams in their ethnic language. The author concludes that this particular function is deeply connected with some other functions, such as a communicative or a sacred one in addition, it reflects certain linguistic ideologies that are discretely dominant in these linguistic communities.

- Abstract:
- Introduction. The methodological support of the educational process is considered from the point of view of the didactic construction of the information environment of education using technical pedagogical tools in the implementation of the pedagogical technology "learning through teaching". To increase the complexity of the teaching content, the effectiveness of combining the "learning through teaching" approach with information technologies is considered proven. The most developed idea of such a combination is the introduction of a "pedagogical agent (comrade)", which carries out communication with the subject area and is an analogue of an expert system. From the point of view of designing an information learning environment, we can talk about using technical tools or their analogs as boundary objects. Horizontal interaction of participants with each other in the implementation of the technology "learning through teaching" generates new boundary objects that can be considered as the basis of methodological support of the educational process. The combination of these two approaches is the theoretical basis of part of the research carried out at the Department of Algorithmic Mathematics of SPBSET "LETI". Results. The role and place of teaching materials in the implementation of the technology "learning through teaching" is presented. The changes in the understanding of the content of teaching are confirmed not only in direct active "teaching", but also in the preparation of teaching materials.

- Abstract:
- The need to study academic engagement and its psychological components is due to the fact that some university students do not study in full force, do not master the necessary knowledge and competencies. The goal was to highlight the psychological components of student engagement in learning, as well as to study the connections between them and academic performance as an effective component of engagement. The methods used were “Emojis” (V.V. Gizhitsky), “Diagnostics of educational motivation of students” (N.Ts. Badmaeva), “Self-assessment of emotional and personal well-being” (G.A. Glotova, L.V. Karapetyan), pilot author's questionnaires “Inclusion in learning” and “Academic microdeviations”. Also, students gave information about the performance of past semesters and the course of study at present. The pilot study conducted by the online survey method involved 83 university students aged 16–26 years. Correlation analysis (according to Spearman) was used in the data processing. As a result of the study, multiple reliable correlations were obtained between psychological indicators of student engagement in learning, such as attitude to learning, motives of learning, inclusion in learning, emotional and personal well-being, behavior of students in classes in situations of fatigue or in the absence of interest in the studied material; it was revealed that the indicators of attitude to learning, inclusion in learning in seminar and practical classes, educational, cognitive and professional motives of learning, as well as “conditionally productive” academic microdeviation are significantly positively correlated with academic performance.

On the Structure of the Beserman Dictionary Based on the Materials of T. I. Teplyashina

- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- This work is devoted to description of the microstructure (dictionary entry) of the Beserman dictionary, which is compiled based on the materials of T. I. Teplyashina. Besermans are small people who live compactly in the North West of Udmurtia. From the point of view of linguistics they speak a special dialect of the Udmurt language. The Besermans have a stable ethnic and linguistic identity, which is different from the Udmurt. At the beginning of the 21st century, the language of Besermans has become an object of considerable interest for linguists. Field materials were embodied in two dictionaries, a monograph and scientific articles. The most significant contribution to the study of the Beserman dialect was made by T. I. Teplyashina, who published the monograph “The Language of the Besermans”. Most of her materials, which were systematized in a field file, remained unused. The scientist's field file representing the Beserman speech of speakers born in the century before last can be called a unique linguistic heritage, waiting to be processed and implemented as a dictionary. Our dictionary will contain lexical and textual materials published in monographs and previously unpublished. This article examines in detail the structure of the dictionary, which has no analogues, at least in the lexicography of the Ural-Volga region.

On the Question of the Cheboksary Shibboleth
Short Communication
Ethnic Culture Volume 4 No 3- Author:
- Eduard V. Fomin
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The work is devoted to the study of the shibboleth in the speech culture of the inhabitants of the capital of Chuvashia. A shibboleth is a word that has absorbed the specific features of a language and is used to identify people for whom this language is not native. The relevance of the study is due to the very existence of the phenomenon of shibboleth in the everyday life of the residents of Cheboksary, which has not yet been studied from the point of view of linguocheboksary. The purpose of the study is to formulate a language unit that maximally concentrates the specific features of the Russian speech of the inhabitants of the city of Cheboksary. The material of the study was the speech samples of Cheboksary residents, during the quantitative and qualitative analysis of which a shibboleth was derived in the form of an interrogative phrase “Skazhite, pozhaluysta, nasha konferencia budet zavtra?” (Tell me, please, will our conference be tomorrow?). At the same time, checking with a shibboleth involves the task of transforming the specified phrase into the Cheboksary regiolect of the Russian language. Completing the task according to the linguistic preferences prevailing in Cheboksary should lead to the invariant “Skazhite-ka, u nas konferencia zavtra budet, chto li?”. The author of the work simultaneously considers Russian shibboleths aimed at the Chuvash linguistic culture, and vice versa. In the Chuvash environment, words with a concentration of a kind of Chuvash phonetics can act as a shibboleth aimed at Russians. In turn, the reproduction of the Russian shibboleth in the Chuvash environment, due to the developed Chuvash-Russian bilingualism, practically does not present any problem in modern realities.

Comparative Analysis of Phraseological Units with the Zoonym Component "Domestic Animal" in the Mordovian and Finnish Languages
Research Article
Ethnic Culture Volume 4 No 3- Author:
- Natalya M. Mosina
- Work direction:
- World languages and literature
- Abstract:
- The purpose of the study is to identify common and distinctive features of Mordovian and Finnish phraseological units with the zoonym component «domestic animal» based on a comparative study of the characteristics of the studied phraseological units. The relevance of this study is due to the need for a comprehensive study of phraseological units with a zoonym component in the Mordovian (Erzya, Moksha) and Finnish languages in order to identify common and specific features inherent in these linguistic cultures. The obvious insufficiency of studies of phraseological units of the considered thematic group also explains the study of phraseological units, which have zoonymic components in their composition. The object of the study was the phraseological units of the Mordovian and Finnish languages, in which the zoonym component «domestic animal» was identified. Based on the methods of descriptive, comparative, component analysis, as well as the method of continuous sampling, this article highlights the components of the semantic aspect of phraseological units with zoonym components; the dominant images in phraseological units with the seme-zoonym are revealed, the frequency of their use in two languages is analyzed, and the universal and specific phenomena in the Mordovian and Finnish languages are determined. The main material of the study is presented by phraseological units with a zoocomponent in the Mordovian (Erzya and Moksha) and Finnish languages, identified by continuous sampling from explanatory monolingual, bilingual and phraseological dictionaries, as well as texts of fiction and journalistic literature.
